I hope that it's been a killer year for you.

2021 was a big (first) year for us with Prehook…we got our quiz platform live after 10 months of working nonstop on it.

Shopify featured us as a Staff Pick in May.Β Β 

And most importantly, we were able to help hundreds of stores use a quiz to improve conversion rate, grow an email/SMS list, and capture zero party data.


And somehow along the way, it turns out that the marketing landscape is changing so quickly that a quiz has become the focal point of marketing for many merchants (are we tired of iOS 14 and its impacts yet?)


So what will 2022 bring?

There are three trends we see in 2022 that we are building towards:

  • 🔬 Zero party data becomes more important than ever - merchants will need a deep repository of customer data, as previous ways of identifying and targeting leads isn’t possible (thanks, TIm Cook & iOS changes)
  • 🧑 Personalization is table stakes- customers expect a personalized shopping experience, but only a fraction of brands are able to deliver. This is the customer experience gap.Β Β 
  • 📱Β Β SMS becomes a primary channel - SMS will continue to grow as a key lever in driving revenue. Whether Klaviyo, Omnisend, Postscript or Attentive, SMS will be huge. And the data gathered from quizzes will make SMS messages more relevant and compelling.

🎯 How To Set Goals (The Right Way)

Need help planning your goals in 2022?

I do too.

I came across this great overview from Anthony Gustin, founder of DTC brand Perfect Keto, and it's a great framework.Β Β 


It’s a detailed guide to help reflection on 2021, and planning for 2022 in various areas: relationships, family, work, fun and more.

I’m starting to go through this, it is certainly intensive, but worthwhile.

And another helpful twist to goals setting from James Clear: β€œIf we are serious about achieving our goals, we should start with a much different question. Rather than considering what kind of success we want, we should ask, β€œWhat kind of pain do I want?”

It's easy to think about the nice things that we'd like to achieve, but how much are we willing to sacrifice to get there? This helps clarify the tradeoffs and priorities......"Everybody wants a gold medal. Few people want to train like an Olympian,” Clear writes.

Lastly, one small way to create a routine that increases the likelihood of sticking to a goal: specify the time, place, and manner in which you'll work towards your goals.

β€œDuring the next week, I will partake in at least 20 minutes of vigorous exercise on [DAY] at [TIME OF DAY] at/in [PLACE].””


It's a great read, and of course a great day to read it as it's the last day of the year 🤯
